Private Algarve Photography Tours
Photograph the Algarve coastline in the best available light, with carefully selected locations, practical guidance and time to work at an unhurried pace.
Each private photography tour is planned around the weather, tides, seasonal light and your own photographic interests.
Tours are limited to a maximum of three photographers, allowing individual guidance while leaving you the space to observe, compose and create your own photographs.
Private Experience
Maximum three photographers
Sunrise, Sunset or Both
Central and western Algarve
Choose Your Algarve Photography Experience
Select either a focused sunrise or sunset session or a more complete experience covering both ends of the day.
Private Sunrise or Sunset Photo Tour
A focused three-hour photography experience timed around the strongest light of the day.
We will usually work at one or two carefully selected coastal locations, allowing enough time to explore different compositions rather than rushing between viewpoints.
The tour can include guidance with:
landscape and seascape composition
exposure settings and histogram use
photographing around sunrise or sunset
long exposures and moving water
filters and tripod technique
focusing and depth of field
adapting to changing light and conditions
One photographer: €225
Two photographers: €275
Three photographers: €325
Duration: approximately three hours
Timing: sunrise or sunset
Group size: maximum three photographers
Algarve Sunrise and Sunset Photography Experience
A more complete photography experience for those who want to photograph the Algarve coastline at both ends of the day.
The experience includes a morning session around sunrise and a second session around sunset, with a substantial break between them.
This provides more time to explore different coastal locations, respond to changing conditions and create a broader range of photographs.
Locations are selected according to the time of year, tides, weather and your photographic interests.
One photographer: €395
Two photographers: €475
Three photographers: €555
Duration: approximately three hours at sunrise and three hours at sunset
Timing: two separate sessions on the same day
Group size: maximum three photographers
A Photography Tour Shaped by Light and Conditions
Landscape photography rarely follows a completely fixed itinerary.
The most suitable location can change according to cloud cover, wind direction, tides, sea conditions, seasonal sunrise and sunset positions and the number of visitors at a location.
Rather than following a rigid route, I select locations that offer the strongest realistic photographic opportunities on the day.
Final meeting times and locations are confirmed in advance, with adjustments made where necessary as the forecast becomes clearer.
This flexible approach gives us a better chance of working with worthwhile light and conditions rather than simply visiting a predetermined list of places.
What You May Photograph
Depending on the selected tour, season and conditions, subjects may include:
golden limestone cliffs
Atlantic seascapes
beaches and coves
sea stacks and rock formations
coastal paths and viewpoints
lighthouses and harbour structures
fishing boats and quieter coastal details
sunrise, sunset and blue-hour light
long exposures of waves and moving water
minimal or abstract coastal compositions
The aim is not to reproduce one particular photograph. You will be encouraged to explore each location and create images that reflect your own interests and way of seeing.
Practical Guidance Without a Classroom Atmosphere
The experience is location-led, but photographic guidance is available throughout.
I can help you assess the scene, simplify compositions, make technical decisions and respond when the light changes.
Guidance is adapted to your experience and offered clearly and practically, without turning the tour into a formal classroom session.
You may want help with camera settings and exposure, or you may already be technically confident and value another experienced photographer’s perspective on composition and location choice.
Both approaches are welcome.
Who Are the Tours For?
The tours are suitable for:
photographers visiting the Algarve who are unfamiliar with the area
enthusiastic beginners who want practical guidance in real conditions
experienced photographers looking for suitable locations and local insight
landscape and travel photographers
photographers wanting to practise long-exposure or seascape techniques
friends or couples who enjoy photographing together
photographers travelling with a non-photographing partner
You do not need to be an advanced photographer. However, the experience is primarily designed around photography rather than general sightseeing.
Mirrorless and DSLR cameras are ideal. Smartphone photographers are also welcome, although guidance involving tripods, filters and long exposures will naturally be more relevant to conventional cameras.
Photography Locations Across the Algarve
Tours take place primarily across the central and western Algarve, including coastal areas within practical travelling distance of Vilamoura.
The exact locations are selected according to:
your photographic interests
the time of year
sunrise or sunset direction
tides and sea conditions
weather and cloud cover
accessibility and expected visitor numbers
I do not follow one fixed route for every tour. This allows each experience to be planned around the conditions and helps avoid directing unnecessary visitor traffic towards quieter photographic locations.
Once your date has been agreed, I will discuss suitable options with you and confirm the meeting point before the tour.
What Is Included?
Your private photography tour includes:
planning based on weather, tides and seasonal light
selection of suitable photographic locations
approximately three hours of photography per session
practical guidance throughout the experience
individual help with camera settings and technique where required
advice before the tour about equipment and expected conditions
a maximum group size of three photographers
What Is Not Included?
The following are not included:
cameras, lenses, tripods or filters
transport to the meeting point
transport between locations
meals or refreshments
accommodation
personal, travel or photographic equipment insurance
Participants use their own or rental vehicle when travelling between locations.
What Should You Bring?
Your requirements will depend on your camera system and the planned location, but useful equipment normally includes:
camera and fully charged batteries
wide-angle or standard zoom lens
medium telephoto lens if available
sturdy tripod
lens cloth
remote release or camera self-timer
neutral-density or graduated filters if you use them
suitable footwear
warm or windproof clothing during cooler months
drinking water
a small torch or head torch for low-light starts
Do not worry if you do not own filters or specialist landscape equipment. Tell me what equipment you have when enquiring and I will advise you on what will be useful.
Fitness, Access and Coastal Safety
Some coastal locations involve sand, uneven ground, steps, inclines or short walks in low light.
The general fitness requirement is modest, but not every location is suitable for every participant. Please mention any mobility concerns when enquiring so that an appropriate location can be considered.
Participants are expected to follow safety guidance and remain within safe viewing and photographing areas. Locations may be changed if weather, access or sea conditions make the original plan unsuitable.
What Happens if the Weather Is Poor?
Cloud is not necessarily bad news for photography. Changing or dramatic weather can often produce more interesting images than a completely clear sky.
However, safety comes first. If strong wind, heavy rain, dangerous sea conditions or another serious concern makes the tour impractical, we will discuss an alternative location or date.
Because coastal conditions can change quickly, final arrangements may be adjusted shortly before the session.
Photo Tour or Photography Tuition?
The photo tours are primarily built around photographing selected Algarve locations in suitable light, with guidance available while we work.
If your main objective is to understand your camera, learn exposure from the beginning, improve a specific technical skill or receive more structured one-to-one instruction, my photography tuition may be more suitable.
About Your Photographer
I am Glyn Parry, a professional photographer based in Vilamoura in the Algarve.
I have more than 17 years of photographic experience and have photographed landscapes, people, events, sport and commercial subjects in Portugal, Australia and elsewhere.
My approach to photography is calm and considered. I prefer to work with the conditions and encourage photographers to make deliberate choices rather than simply move rapidly between obvious viewpoints.
My own landscape work is strongly influenced by coastline, changing light, weather and a sense of place. I bring that experience to each tour while allowing participants to develop their own interpretation of the locations we visit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be an experienced photographer?
No. Enthusiastic beginners are welcome and guidance can be adapted to your experience. It is helpful to have some familiarity with your camera, but advanced technical knowledge is not required.
Are the photography tours private?
Yes. Each price applies to a private booking for one, two or three photographers. You will not be added to a group of unrelated participants.
Can a non-photographing partner join me?
A non-photographing partner may usually join by prior agreement. Please mention this when making your enquiry.
Is transport included?
No. Participants meet at an agreed location and use their own or rental vehicle when travelling between locations.
Which locations will we visit?
Locations are selected according to the weather, tides, seasonal light, accessibility and your photographic interests. The provisional plan will be discussed and confirmed before the tour.
Can I use a smartphone?
Yes, although the experience is designed primarily for photographers using mirrorless or DSLR cameras. Smartphone photographers can still benefit from guidance with composition, light and visual storytelling.
Do I need a tripod?
A tripod is strongly recommended for sunrise, sunset, blue-hour and long-exposure photography. Tell me what equipment you have when enquiring and I will advise you before the tour.
How far in advance should I book?
Advance booking is recommended, particularly during the busier spring, summer and autumn periods. When enquiring, include several possible dates where practical so that suitable light, tides and locations can be considered.
